FAQ

What is the depth at Steinhatchee Marina?

Steinhatchee River empties into Deadman’s Bay about 15 miles NNW of Horseshoe Point. The entrance is marked by a square green daymark, Steinhatchee River Light 1 (29°39’24″N., 83°27’24″W.), at 30 feet above the water. A dredged channel leads through Deadman’s Bay to a turning basin at the seafood plants on the south bank of the river, about two miles above the mouth.

As of a survey conducted in 1999, the controlling depths were 31⁄2 feet (51⁄2 feet at mid channel) to the turning basin, and one to four feet in the S half and 41⁄2 to six feet in the N half of the basin. Lights and day beacons mark the channel. Craft up to 23 feet can be handled for hull and engine repairs, or open or covered storage. On the south bank of the river about ½ mile above Steinhatchee, are seafood packing plants and two private boatyards. Craft up to 50 feet can be handled in an emergency.
