A Look at Kayaking in Steinhatchee, FL

Florida has quite a lot to offer water enthusiasts, with well over a thousand miles of coastline, thousands of lakes, and 1,700 rivers. Some of the best kayaking spots in the state are located right here in Deadman’s Bay and the Steinhatchee River. In fact, Steinhatchee River boasts a designated paddling trail, which starts at Steinhatchee Falls. A unique feature of this trail is that approximately one mile of it is underground! As you near the Gulf toward the end of this eight-mile+ trail, you’ll note that the river becomes tidal.

Unlike many other rivers, the Steinhatchee River is practically custom-made for sightseeing kayakers, as there is no commercial development along its banks. It’s also a healthy, robust river ecosystem, with dense vegetation along the shoreline and a plethora of critters in and around the water. You might see manatees, gators, beaver, and river otters when you head out on a kayak.
