Who Needs a License?

If you’re planning on partaking in any part of fishing, whether that be casting the line or baiting the hook, you need a license. The only time you won’t need a license to fish in Florida is if you’re fishing on a charter, fishing off a pier or participating in free fishing days. This is also required for any certain marine organisms like crabs and lobsters. There are some exemptions, however. For instance, those who are 16 and younger, 65 or older with proof of age and residency or Florida residents who are certified as totally and permanently disabled are exempt from needing a fishing license. Florida residents who are actively in the Armed Forces but are stationed in another state and are home for 30 days or less are also exempt.
